What Is TMJ Dysfunction?
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint. This is the joint that attaches the jaw to the skull. Problems with the joint can arise from injury, inflammation, dislocation, clentching or grinding of the teeth, or stress.
What Kind of Symptoms May I Feel?
- Your jaw may get locked or stuck in the open or closed position.
- Grating, popping, or clicking sounds when opening your jaw.
- Swelling of the cheeks.
- Pain around the joint area and ear when chewing, yawning, or talking.
- Headaches
